So this week I am going to talk about using Grey in your Wedding Day. Grey is a hugely misunderstood colour. People don’t use it because they think of it as dull and boring. Not me, despite my love affair with bright and vibrant colours, I use grey a lot in my work (and am actually about to decorate my boys bedroom in it too). It is great as a neutral base that can then be accented with pretty much anything. Personally I love to see it with pink or yellow, and sometimes pink and yellow at the same times like in my little Butterfly Peg Doll.
Ok so before we go any further, I have a huge confession to make. This last fortnight at Lotty Lollipop HQ has been bonkers, what with building work in full swing and poorly kids. On Friday, other than the title for this piece, I’d done no proper research and was freaking out about what I was actually going to write.
However, I am part of the most wonderful and inspirational crafting community over on Facebook, many pages moan about it and their non existent reach. But I don’t. Facebook is a free platform, without it my company would not be what it is today. Everyday I am inspired with the gorgeous makes that pop up in my newsfeed from various different Artists. I have made friends on there too, real proper friends. Friends that I can call on for advice, tell about my bad day, share with the joys of good news or just simply talk about family life with. So what better place than to put out a call for help.
“Please fellow pages send me in your Grey makes, inspire me”, and inspire me they did.
Rachael at Foxglove and Gingersnap is one of my favourite seamstresses on Facebook. Her makes are wonderful and Kitsch. She has the most vibrant and fun personality which definitely comes across in her work. Can you tell I’m a huge fan? This silver/grey dress with shocking pink dress net underskirt would make a super alternative wedding dress.
Grey is a really hard colour to put in your wedding bouquet as nature doesn’t produce grey flowers. However the wonderful Sarah at Mustard Pot creates stunning bouquets, buttonnaires and wedding favours out of pure or blended merino wool. Her work is just stunning.
Kathy creates practical fused glass pieces that are a true works of art, at Practical Kat. These beautiful little monochrome dishes can be used for table decorations with candles etc, to hold the rings for the ceremony or as favours.
Amy at Fox’s Felts makes the most amazing needle felted mobiles. However in her former life she was a wedding florist, who exhibited at Chelsea Flower show. She sent me this beautiful photograph of a bird cage veil she made, which I just love. There is such an elegance and style to a birdcage veil and it works really well in this colour way.
Louise at Sew Sofia makes the most fantastically executed and practical bags. Well worth checking out. In her range are these Chalk Mats, they are just perfect for keeping your little ones entertained during the meal.
Kerry at Gift Patch work wonders in felt. This Mr and Mrs Garland would be a fab addition to the top table and is a great keepsake.
And Charlotte at The Cherry Blossom Bakery has a wonderful cake shop in Bawtry, Doncaster. She sent me in these pictures with my favourite way to do grey, accented with pink and yellow.
Vicky at Lexis Place makes hairbands and accessories like no other I have ever seen. Each piece is a true work of art. This Badger Hairband fits with the grey theme and would look so sweet in your bridesmaids hair as well as making a lovely Thank You gift.
Nic at Forever Fairies works wonders with Fimo. These hanging fairies are just perfectly personalised and unique favours for all your guests
Happy Bunny sent me in this picture of the sweetest little soft toy, which would make a lovely alternative bouquet for your flower girl or a lovely Thank You gift.
Bring out the Bunting makes Bespoke Personalised Prints & Gifts perfect for that special present
Belle’s Brooch Bouquets has a range of the most stunning bouquets, here is one in silvers and greys
Debs at Lots Of Love Always makes the most yummy soaps ever. All her ingredients are natural and most impressively she keeps her own bees. Whose wonderful honey is used in the making of her products. These soap make the most fabulous favours and simply look good enough to eat.
Finally would you like to remember lost loved ones that sadly can not be with you on your big day? But will forever be in your heart. These are my (Lotty Lollipop’s) best selling favours and have such a lovely subtle meaning to them
