Once upon a time there was a lovely girl, Katie, who was sick to death of waiting around for her Prince Charming. So she decided to take matters into her own hands, she got herself on her computer and found herself an equally lovely boy, James. In his eye, unbeknown to her where two twinkles that were to become their beautiful boys Freddie and Arthur. This is their tale of their happily ever after …
James proposed to me on Christmas Morning when I was 8 months pregnant. I had dreamed of getting married since being a little girl, as so had my Mum! We didn’t want to hang about so we cracked on and booked wedding in for the following summer. Even though our baby, Freddie was just 8 months old.
We really wanted a traditional feel to the day. However as we had Freddie (not so traditionally) we really wanted the children play a big part in the wedding day. There were a massive 25 in attendance, with 11 under 4 years old! The result was a conventional wedding with a lovely, relaxed, family orientated. It was perfect, it was ours.
We got married in St Mary’s church in Sutton in Ashfield which is just such a beautiful church, just around the corner from the house I grew up in as a little girl. The vicar was just lovely, she delivered a service that allowed interaction from the children. She put our mind a ease that there would be no issues if children were noisy, talked or even cried during ceremony.
The reception was at The New Bath Hotel in Matlock, which very sadly is now closed. It was a very safe venue to house our wedding in.
Whilst the grown ups drank, ate and had a boogy on the dance floor.
The days wasn’t hitch free. But these things are what make the days extra special now – although it didn’t feel like it at the time. James was dropped by his Groomsmen during the outdoor photoshoot.
Thankfully he was ok, and in all fairness everyone found it hilarious!! Not so hilariously the wedding car broke down between the church and hotel, so we were late to our own wedding, and arrived in a replacement. It was a beautiful car and I guess this is what happens when you hire vintage.
My beautiful Ivory Bouquets and Centrepieces were created by Margaret’s Florist in Ripley.
A friend created made me my cake as a wedding gift, and the toppers featuring Me, James and Baby Freddie were by Forever Fairies.
